Glen Johnson has signed a new four-and-a-half-year contract with the Blues, keeping him at Fratton Park until 2013.
The 24-year-old England right-back has made 83 appearances for Pompey since arriving from Chelsea – initially on a season-long loan – in the summer of 2006.
His form on the south coast has seen him become a regular in Fabio Capello’s England squad.
And Tony Adams is delighted to see the former Chelsea star commit his future to Pompey.
“It’s great news that Glen’s decided to sign a new contract,” said the Blues boss.
“I’m delighted to have him here - I want him here for a long time.
“This is a good place for him. He’s got back in the England squad since he came here.
“Glen’s applied himself really well. He’s always desperate to play and gets frustrated when he can’t.
“He’s been very good for this club and this club’s been very good for him.”
Pompey’s executive chairman Peter Storrie said: “Glen was only too happy to sign a new contract and it speaks volumes about his loyalty for this club and his desire to succeed with Pompey.
“In my opinion we have the best right-back in the country and this sends out a strong message that top-quality players want to play for this club.”
Johnson began his career at West Ham, before becoming Roman Abramovich’s first signing at Chelsea in 2003.
He was part of the Londoners’ 2004/5 championship-winning side and picked up a Carling Cup winner’s medal during his time at Stamford Bridge.
Johnson has 10 England caps and made his full debut in a friendly defeat to Denmark in November 2003.
