Paul Hart has paid tribute to Sir Bobby Robson after the former England manager’s death at the age of 76 following a long battle with cancer.
“He’s managed all over Europe which some people forget,” said the Blues boss. “He’s been successful wherever he’s gone.
“Some manager’s don’t achieve what he has in one country, so to do what he’s done is very special.
“I think it goes to prove just what a great coach he was.
“I always found him very helpful and keen to offer advice. He was a true gentleman.
“I actually sold Jermaine Jenas to him in 2002 when he was boss at Newcastle. I was concerned about where Jermaine would go, but once I knew it was Newcastle I felt comfortable.
“Bobby’s enthusiasm for the game shone through – it was infectious and he never lost it.
“People loved him because of that. He was a true legend of the game and he will be missed.”
Robson took England to the World Cup semi-finals at Italia 90 and also managed Fulham, Ipswich, PSV Eindhoven, Sporting Lisbon, Porto, Barcelona and Newcastle.
He led Ipswich to FA Cup and UEFA Cup triumphs before taking over as Three Lions boss.
He then won two league titles with PSV and another two with Porto, before helping Barcelona lift the Spanish Cup and European Cup Winners’ Cup.
As a player, Robson starred for Fulham and West Bromwich Albion, before a short spell with Vancouver Royals.
He won 20 caps for England and represented his country at the 1958 World Cup.
