David James starts for Pompey tonight in the opening match of the City of Guimaraes Trophy against hosts Vitoria.
It is the first time the England keeper has played since undergoing shoulder and knee surgery in the spring.
Paul Hart has selected an otherwise youthful side with David Nugent, Richard Hughes, Marc Wilson and Martin Cranie the only other players to have played for the Blues in the Premier League.
Wilson and Cranie are paired in the centre of defence with James Hurst and Joel Ward filling the full-back slots.
Hughes is joined in a three-man midfield by Gautier Mahoto and trialist Modeste M’Bami.
Nugent will play as a lone striker, supported by Matt Ritchie and Paris Cowan-Hall on the flanks.
Pompey: James; Ward, Cranie, Wilson, Hurst; M’Bami, Mahoto, Hughes; Cowan-Hall, Ritchie; Nugent
Subs: Begovic, Moutaouakil, Kaboul, Wilkinson, Bopp, Pancrate, Utaka, Subotic, Kanu
